ABOUT DAVID CADOGAN
David Cadogan has been a leading artist in the Caribbean for more than 30 years. Until recently he has been based in Antigua where he still exhibits regularly and has a home and studio. He still spends time on the island but has now made Milton Keynes his home and is establishing himself in the UK.
Although Cadogan is best known as a highly accomplished watercolourist, he has recently shifted his focus to oils in order to emphasise the dynamic energy inherent in people and landscape. His fascination with light, and exploration of the relationship between light and dark remain inspirations and are constants across his work.
"I consider the structure of my painting in great detail before I begin, and then use brushstroke variety to depict the intrinsic quality of my subject; I am passionate about conveying the feel and energy of what I can see. I am inspired by this, and relish the challenge of it in each new work. I know it will never be perfect but getting close is exciting."
"My Ballerinas are a constant source of joy. David has captured the essences of both private reflection and stage poise, and the complexity of light and dark brilliantly and profoundly"
